On May 22, Yadav had left nobody in doubt that his party backed the Congress when he first shared the dais with UPA allies and later sat at the high table with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Congress also trashed the possibility of emergence of any Third Front ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
"Abhi dilli door ast (Delhi is still far away). This is what a Mughal emperor had once said," HRD minister Kapil Sibal said in Kolkata.
Alvi also castigated SP's Mohan Singh for his remarks against Rahul Gandhi.
"I do not know who Mohan Singh is. He was removed as SP spokesperson because he keeps making such statements…he does not know Congress or its leaders."
