The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) raided 14 air-polluting industries of Mandi Gobindgarh in the past two days and found six industries violating the air pollution norms.
Dr Babu Ram, member secretary of the board, said four teams led by senior environmental engineer Gulshan Rai raided 14 industries of Mandi Gobindgarh and found six major violators.

The member secretary disclosed that these teams were directed to inspect these units thoroughly to check the compliance of the Air Act, 1981, and the Water Act, 1974. The legal samples of these industries were collected and sent to the head office laboratory for analysis.

Chairman of the board Ravinder Singh said action was being initiated against the erring units and no defaulting unit would be spared, as the board was adopting a zero tolerance policy in this regard.

The air polluting industries of Mandi Gobindgarh were under the scanner of the board since long as this industrial town was known for air pollution, he said.

He appealed to the industrialists to operate their air and water pollution control devices regularly and help the board make the ambient air of the state non-polluted.
