3 persons were killed at Garbeta when a police vehicle hit them on Wednesday. According to sources, the Purulia superintendent was travelling in one of the vehicles.   “3 people died in the accident. The driver of the police vehicle lost control trying to save a motorcyclist,” said West Midnapore SP Sunil Choudhuri. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

Sources said that SP Purulia C Sudhakar was travelling to Kharagpur for a meeting. Sudhakar got off from his vehicle and arranged to send the injured to the hospital. The accident happened as the SP’s convoy was crossing Raskundu.

While Alok Mandal, 29 died on the spot, Arati Mandal, 42 and Khalima Khatun, 22, succumbed to their injuries on their way to Midnapore Medical College Hospital. 2 more were injured in the accident and admitted to the hospital.
