In catch that could give various security agencies sleepless nights, the Tarn Taran police have managed to nab a government employee lady along with her husband and seized maps of various key locations of Punjab.
The lady has been identified as Sukhpreet Kaur and her husband as
Suraj Pal Singh.
As per the police the lady has traveled to Pakistan thrice in past few years and also allegedly has closeness to people across the border.
Police claimed that the lady had given some key maps to a Pakistani smuggler named Rana and taken some gold biscuits in return.
Talking to HT, SSP Tarn Taran, Kamaljit Singh Dhillon said, "There was some tip off about the activities of the lady Sukhpreet Kaur, who is an employee in the Sales Tax department and posted in Amritsar. So we kept an observation and managed to nab her along with her husband."
"It was surprising that we found maps of key locations such as Military area Amritsar, Attari Border, various cantonment areas, Beas Bridge, Harike Bridge, Goindwal Bridge from her possession," said SSP Dhillon.
Detailing further, SSP said, "As per our information, the lady was in touch with a Pakistani smuggler named Rana and also handed over some maps to him. In return she received some gold biscuits or toxic substances."
She was the main person active in this and the role of her husband is also suspicious, he added.
SSP said, "This is something really serious as the maps have a connection with national security. We are also writing the matter to intelligence and other security agencies so that matter could be investigated in detail."
SSP Dhillon stressed that during questioning, police will like to know more contacts of the couple across the border.
In the same case, police is also looking for Harbhagwant Singh, a relative of the lady. Police have registered a case under the Official Secrets Act 1923.
The accused lady and her husband belonged to village Sandhran near Bhikhiwind.
