Cinema owners and multiplexes have refunded the money to customers who had booked in advance. A number of viewers had to return disappointed when they heard that the movie was not screened.The comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal is directed by Asvini Yardi and the story is based on a Gujrati Play 'Kanji Virudh Kanji'. It has been leant that the police commissioner Ishwar Singh has convened a meeting of cinema owners and multiplex managers, sensing the sentiments of Hindu organisations. Later, the cinema and multiplex owners organized a pre-release show for Hindu Organization leaders and police officials at Waves in Westend Malls.
However, Hindu organizations formed a committee under the leadership of Mahant Narayan Das Puri and after a meeting at the Sangla Shivala shrine demanded the registration of a criminal case against director, producer and actors of the movie.
The group also demanded dissolution of the Censor Board that passed the film. A police complaint was also filed.
Rajinder Kaura, president of cinema owners' organization of Ludhiana, said they had not released the film, following verbal orders from the police. Rajan Arora, a student expressed disappointment at the non-release of the movie.
General Secretary of Northern India Motion Picture Association, Ashok Sharma, said that Ludhiana and Jalandhar were the two districts in Punjab where the movie was to be released. Ashok Sharma, said, as per his knowledge the film was released and being played in several cinemas and multiplexes of all cities except Ludhiana and Jalandhar.
The Jalandhar Police commissioner has decided to watch the movie and would pass an order on its release.
