It is always a wise thing to keep an alternative job option up your sleeve in case things don't work out in the present one. In the case of some, an alternative profession could be the answer. It is clear that our Mamatadi has given this matter some thought. After all, how long can you flog the
cause of the common man and dare the government? Yes, we are referring to her masterful piece of mimicry of the prime minister on a television show. From what we observed, it would be wise if she were to brush up on her mimicry skills before considering it an alternative profession. Of course, we all know that she is poet and a painter though we are yet to figure out what genre her paintings would feature in.
In fact, Mamatadi has probably shown the way. Many of our politicians have known nothing else but politics all their lives, so it might be appropriate for them to develop some skills for a life after the hurly burly of public life. Now some like the Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav were known for their prowess in wrestling, though it is doubtful that he could take that up again at this age. The irrepressible Lalu Yadav could very well take up a career as a stand-up comic given his quick wit and repartee. The iron lady of Poes Garden has the deliberate manner of a teacher, something which should come naturally given her erudition and love of books. The prime minister is a natural as an economist so no arguments there. Another person who could think of a career in comedy would be the inimitable rural development minister Jairam Ramesh whose one-liners are now legendary. Now we don't know what skills the BJP president Nitin Gadkari has apart from politics but we can well imagine him as an uber organiser given the zeal with which he holds mega meetings of the party.
Which brings us to the question of what we editorial writers could be if we were not writing these gems for you. And we realise, horror of all horrors, that we have nothing much to recommend for ourselves. But, it is possible, though remotely, that since we write so much on the subject, we might make good politicians.
