Most of the dengue cases are being reported from Karol Bagh, Civil Lines and Shahdara zones this season. Overall, the maximum number of cases, 35, has been reported by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
“We have intensified dengue surveillance in all our zones and fogging to kill adult mosquitoes. October is the peak season for dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and we are taking best possible measures to check the spread of the disease,” said a senior SDMC health official. The city has also reported nearly 300 cases of malaria and six chikungunya cases so far this year. Two chikungunya cases are from Delhi, three from Uttar Pradesh and one person has recently travelled to Mumbai.
Though the civic agencies put the dengue cases at 88, private hospitals such as Max, Apollo, Sir Ganga Ram, BL Kapur and Fortis alone have reported nearly five times the number.
