Mamata should stop criticising the Centre and focus on West Bengal
With reference to the report Didi, Karuna turn up FDI heat on govt (October 2), West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s criticism of the UPA’s policies is justified. But she should not let this come in the way of her primary job of governing West Bengal. Though she has walked out of the UPA, Banerjee still needs the Centre. She should not spoil her relations with the UPA. Instead of accusing the PM of formulating ‘wrong’ policies, Banerjee should get down to solving Bengal’s various problems.

Kurien did a better job than Jobs
Abhijit Banerjee draws an interesting comparison between Steve Jobs and Verghese Kurien in his article Butterly brilliant (Poverty Line, October 2). I believe that Kurien faced a more difficult challenge than Jobs. He transformed the lives of almost 10 million farmers and gave the country a working model which was previously unknown. Kurien was not only an ace entrepreneur like Jobs but also a visionary par excellence.

The CAG has not crossed any lines
The Supreme Court has rightly chided the government for criticising the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) (SC snubs govt, says CAG is not ‘munimji’, October 2). The CAG is well within its rights to point out flaws in governance and in advising the government on various matters of national importance. The prime minister and his Cabinet ministers are making a big mistake by admonishing the CAG.
