It is pertinent to mention here that police have registered 18 cases of eve-teasing in the past more than a week and arrested 24 persons. As many as 36 calls related to eve-teasing have been received by police in the recent past.
Meanwhile, during his interaction with students of Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College at Sector 26, the SSP heard the problem girls faced at the hands of eve-teasers at bus stops and in markets. The SSP assured the girls that their identity would be kept secret if they reported eve-teasing to police. He said that after police launched a campaign against the menace, several girls had come forward to lodge complaints against the accused. Naunihal assured young women of full support and security. He warned that those accused of repeat offence in eve-teasing cases would be booked under more stringent sections of IPC.
Complaint against cop on dutyThe SSP came across yet another complaint pertaining to harassment of a girl by a cop, but no action could be initiated as she failed to identify the cop. A girl complained that she was stopped by a police team in Sector 26 when she was driving on the wrong side and one of the cops on duty exhaled the cigarette smoke on her face. He also hurled abuses at her and shouted at her for driving on the wrong side. Another girl highlighted that senior citizens were also indulging in eve-teasing.
