The unending spate of crimes against women in Haryana has claimed four more victims. While a gangrape has been reported from Gohana in Sonepat district, a minor girl was the victim in Rohtak town on Wednesday, another was allegedly raped by a neighbour in Gharaunda town in Karnal and yet another
case of rape of a mentally challenged woman came to light from Narwana in Jind.
In the Gohana case, the victim was a 19-year-old newly married woman of Banwasa village who faced serial rape for five days. She was trapped on September 28, when a woman neighbour called Maafi told the victim that the latter's husband, a daily-wager, was calling her to a spot near the railway tracks in nearby Gohana.
When she went there, she was abducted by four men identified as Sunil and Sanjay of Khandari village, Sarvan of Hadthari village (Panipat) and Anil of Ahmedpur Majra, who raped her repeatedly before releasing her at the Gohana bus stand on October 2. She narrated the incident to her family, who took her to the police station. All five accused have been arrested.
In Rohtak, a 40-year-old man raped a 12-year-old girl at Shastri Nagar on Wednesday. Identified as Parkash Saini, a confectioner, the man entered the girl's house by scaling a wall when her mother had gone for her daily-wage job while her father was away plying his auto-rickshaw. The matter came to light when the victim's aunt happened to come calling and got no response upon knocking at the door. She raised the alarm, but the man managed to flee. Later, he was nabbed by the local police.
A 30-year-old mentally challenged woman was raped by a man at Balerka village of Narwana in Jind district on Tuesday. A man and a woman took the victim to secluded fields, where a man named Dhanwa, 50, of Gurthali village, raped her before some residents heard the cries of the victim and managed to catch the rapist. The accomplices fled.
The victim's husband works as a labourer, police said.
In Karnal, the police arrested a 22-year-old man from Gharaunda town near here on Wednesday night after his neighbour alleged that she had been raped and impregnated by him about 10 weeks ago. Superintendent of police Shashank Anand said the victim approached the police and named Pradeep, who recently got married. The police would get her medically examined to confirm the allegations.
