The accused had rented out a room in the Mhada transit camp at Bangalipura to one Halima Mulla, 38, and her relatives Salim Shaikh, Aslam Shaikh and Aahat Aalam. Sayyad wanted to store liquor in the room, but the tenants opposed this. The accused then allegedly attacked and injured them at around 2 am on Wednesday. Salim suffered grevious injuries and is said to be in critical condition.
Shaikh told HT: “He threatened us to allow him to store liquor worth Rs1 lakh in the house. When we objected, he claimed that he had rented the flat to us, so we could not oppose him. He then attacked us. He has encroached upon several flats in the transit camp and gives them on rent to people.”
Satish Kavankar, sub inspector at Antop Hill police said, “Sayyad has several offences registered against him in other police stations.”
The police have booked all the accused for attempt to murder, rioting, criminal intimidation and attacking with weapons, under the IPC. The police have secured their custody till Monday.
