"The government is also planning to enhance the pension being given to freedom fighters, which is at present Rs. 5,000 per month. Besides, 1% reservation for families is there in various colleges and government jobs," he added.
"The freedom fighters also get financial assistance from the union government along with facilities such as free-of-cost rail travel," he added.
In the meet, he also listened to the grievances of 117 registered freedom fighters and their families of Jalandhar district and assured early resolution of their issues.
Special secretary OP Popli, deputy commissioner Priyank Bharti and other administrative officers of the district were present on the occasion.
