A 40-year-old migrant labourer working in the Grain Market at Jalandhar was allegedly raped in the wee hours of Saturday.
Police sources revealed that the victim, a migrant from Bihar, had alleged in her complaint that she was molested by Pankaj Kumar, a resident of local Gurdev Nagar around at 2am on Saturday when she was cleaning paddy in the grain market.

"Three or four persons came in the market and started making hooliganism. Pankaj spotted me and forcefully molested me on the gunny bags lying in the mandi," she submitted in her complaint.

"The victim was earlier reluctant to file a criminal case about the trauma she faced but after counselling by commission agents and police officials, she lodged a complaint," said SHO Balbir Singh.

"We have arrested the accused from local Sabzi Mandi and he used to threaten the migrants working in the grain market earlier too," said the SHO, adding, "a case under sections 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code has been registered against him."
