Superintendent of Police (SP) Raisen, Shashikant Shukla, said the victim's statement has been recorded and the offence is being registered. "She poured kerosene on self and then set herself afire", said Shukla.
The victim was rushed to the Hamidia Hospital for treatment. She said that she did not recognise any of the accused. According to her statement, she had left Mandideep to return home. The woman said she was walking and looking for a vehicle, when jeep-borne persons forcibly took her along, and after taking her to a desolate place, they allegedly raped her.
The victim's daughter told police that her mother had left for Mandideep two days back and on her return on Tuesday, set herself ablaze. The 10-year-old girl said her mother had gone to Bhopal to get money from her kin. The victim's husband works at a construction site, sources said.
