To ease the rush in Safdarjung Hospital's Sports Injury Centre, the health ministry plans to provide similar facilities at the regional level across India. Speaking on the occasion of 2nd Foundation Day of the centre, which was established to provide comprehensive diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitative facilities for sports-related injuries, union health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said more such centres are required in India.

"We will consider establishing more such centres under the 12th five-year plan, so that our sportspersons do not have to travel long distances for treatment," said Azad.

The sportspersons present on the occasion emphasised upon the need for creating awareness among the sports fraternity about the existence of this facility.
