However, other dandiya organisers are gearing up for a sluggish turnout of patrons. "Public response in terms of ticket sales so far has been 30% lower than last year," said Nimesh Parekh, secretary, Brihanmumbai Navratri Mahamandal.
Organisers at Mangal Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which will organise a dandiya event at Goregaon Sports Club, said the rains have slowed the demand for tickets. "While daily tickets have been selling well, the response for seasonal passes has been lower since people expect heavy rains," said organiser Gaurav Kothari.
The Dadar Dandiya Dhamal, which has been organising garba and dandiya raas for the last three years, has decided to call off the event this year citing higher costs and tough time deadlines.
"Over the last three years, we realised it was difficult to break-even owing to increasing expenditure and fewer people coming in on weekdays as celebrations stop by 10pm," said organiser Pankaj Mehta. "Expenses have also risen, with bands charging up to Rs10 lakh, and we cannot increase ticket rates as it will reduce footfall," Mehta added.
