The hotel, run by Tokyo-based hotel operator Kachikaihatsu Co., is built to alleviate the accommodation shortage in the area and is intended for construction workers and volunteers.
Each of the air-conditioned rooms has a television, bar, fridge, desk and a window.
A night’s stay at the hotel costs 8,100 yen ($103) per night and will include breakfast and dinner.
Freight container hotels, often built as temporary lodging to cope with a lack of accommodation facilities, can also be found in other parts of the world. Earlier this year, the 320-room Snoozebox hotel provided accommodation for security personnel engaged at the Olympics Games in London.
