Mild tremors were felt in the bordering districts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning.
No loss of life or property has been reported so far. Mild shocks were experienced at about 8.03am in Sarguja division of Chhattisgarh and Jabalpur-Umaria-Shahdol area of Madhya Pradesh.

The epicentre of the earthquake, of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale, was about 150 kms from Jabalpur division, Raipur MET office director ML Sahu told PTI.

"It appears to be a low intensity earthquake with its epicentre nearly 150 kms away from Jabalpur," a scientist in-charge of observatory at Bargi hills near Jabalpur said.

A report from Shahdol said the earthquake lasted for nearly 20-30 seconds, forcing people to come out of their houses in Shahdol-Annoppur area.
