Convener of Jat Mahapanchayat Samiti, Kuldeep Dhanda told Hindustan Times, "We had issued an ultimatum to government that they must ensure reservation for jat community in state and center government jobs by 15th December or else there would be an agitation against it."
Dhanda said, "It was transpired during the 26 member committee of Jat representative held at Jind along with expansion of core committee to 38 members."
The meeting which was presided over by samiti president Nafe Singh Nain was also attended by members of jat leader Hawa Singh Sangwan, Dharmpal Chott, Col. OP Sandhu faction.
However, khap leaders refrained from talking on issue of lowering the marriage age of girls.
Another khap leader said, "Demand of reservation for jats is more important for us than any other issue right now, and lowering the marriage age of girls is not primarily the samiti demand."
He said, "Some khap leaders may have aired their personal opinion in media which made the khap panchayat a laughing stock among the society."
It may be noted that Sarv Jat Mahapanchayat had taken a U-turn from their statement on lowering the marriage age of girls as a measure to combat crime against women after it drew flak from all quarters including media.
