For friends and family, 23-year-old Bidushi Dash-Barde was a role model for people suffering from health problems.
When she entered the Miss Chennai pageant in 2006, Bidushi was just 17, but it was apparent that she had tremendous potential, said Shobha Ravishanker, an organiser of
the Miss Chennai contest.
Ravishanker, who mentored Bidushi, said, “We had to give extra attention to her to ensure that she got all the shots and diabetes medicines on time during the training for the pageant.”
Ravishanker said Bidushi quickly learnt the tricks of the trade. “She could sing and dance very well. She was very versatile,” she said.
According to Ravishanker, Bidushi had become a role model for people suffering from health problems as they too could then dream of succeeding in their fields. Her determination and fighting spirit was infectious, she said.
“She was in touch with me and was open to assignments. She told me a few months ago that her health was improving and she was ready to work,” Ravishanker said.
After coming in as a runner up in the pageant, Bidushi got a small role in a Kamal Hassan starrer. The film, Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu, directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon, had Bidushi playing the daughter of Prakash Raj.
Although Vasudev Menon remembered Bidushi, he said he did not know her well enough to be able to make any comments about her. “She had the potential, but she did not do much with her career.”
“She was on the film set only for three days. But she did as she was told and what was expected of her very efficiently,” he added.
