A CBI team has arrested two persons in Bihar in connection with the multi-crore railway recruitment scam, said agency sources on Sunday. The CBI had registered a case following complaints of cheating from railway job aspirants who claimed they had paid Rs. 6 lakh each to secure a placement. The gang cheated job aspirants across the country by issuing fake appointment letters after collecting a huge amount of money from them.

The prime suspect was identified as Ramnath Singh, now in custody. He had invested crores of rupees, collected from the ‘recruits’, in a Bollywood film.

Earlier, the Delhi police had arrested a software engineer, a graphic designer and an MBA graduate. Together they created a fake website of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Muzaffarpur, and duped over 400 candidates by offering them jobs.

According to the police, the modus operandi of the gang was to lift roll numbers from the original website and then list them as the candidates who had qualified for jobs. They used to contact candidates who got convinced after seeing their names on the ‘forged’ website.

“Once the candidates fell into their trap, they collected money from them for appointment letters,” said an officer. The forged website had the name of Muzaffarpur to give an impression that it was the official website of the RRB, Muzaffarpur. Later, the board had to declare through advertisements - in a bid to make people aware of the ongoing fraud - that the forged website was not its official website.
