The Haldia Dock Complex and its nodal body, the Kolkata Port Trust are staring at a bleak future, with fear gripping dock workers following the abduction of three officers of cargo-handling company Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) by about 50 workers of Haldia port on Sunday morning.
On Monday, too, HBT employees were not allowed to work, allegedly by belligerent dock workers owing allegiance to the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Workers of a Trinamool MP-owned private firm, a competitor to HBT, appear bent on thwarting any attempt to restore normalcy at the berths run by HBT.

Some workers mustered courage and sat on demonstration, demanding that they be allowed to work peacefully. They had alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress is trying to ensure that only the firm owned by its party MP operates in the area.
