According to a meteorological department official, Nilam — the cyclonic storm that originated over the Bay of Bengal and moved towards Tamil Nadu coast on Wednesday — is behind this untimely foggy weather.
“This is the ripple effect of the storm in South India. It will last for another 48 hours and then subside,” the official said.
The fog cover enveloped the Capital till around noon with motorists facing difficulties on the roads.
According to the meteorological department, the maximum temperature will hover around 27 degrees celsius and the minimum around 15 with shallow fog till forenoon.
Flyers didn’t face any problems. According to a meteorological department official at the airport, smog and haze in the wee hours — which continued till noon — and in the evening caused minor problems. “The airport is equipped to handle such situations as there are proper protocols in place,” he said.
