The report quoted two sources, as saying that it was inevitable that Apple would move to chips of its own design eventually, but that it was unlikely to switch in the next few years.
The report, however, said that according to its sources, no final decision has been made about moving away from Intel.
According to the Telegraph, the report fits in with recent changes to Apple's executive team, which included the creation of a new Technologies group, headed by Bob Mansfield, who was formerly in charge of Mac hardware engineering.
Apple said the new team would combine 'all of Apple's wireless teams across the company in one organization, fostering innovation in this area at an even higher level'.
"This organization will also include the semiconductor teams, who have ambitious plans for the future," the firm added.
