Without fighting corruption, we can't battle malnutrition
This refers to the editorial There is little on their plates (Our Take, November 5). In the beginning of the year, Prime Minister Manmohan called malnutrition in the country "a national shame". However, the fact that
the misappropriation of funds that are meant for children's nutritional needs cripple the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) is the ultimate ignominy. This rampant corruption in our system will also undermine the gains of the Right to Education Act as malnourished children are less likely to perform well in school. It seems that corrupt officials are leaving a whole generation malnourished and stunted.

Gadkari has not got it wrong
This refers to the report BJP rifts cast shadow on Gadkari's future (November 6). BJP president Nitin Gadkari has erred on several occasions, but his comparison of Swami Vivekananda with the fugitive Dawood Ibrahim is philosophically not wrong. His comments need to be seen in perspective. If arrogance dominates over rationality, a man, defined as a rational person becomes demeaned. The hue and cry that we are witnessing over the comment is a combination of media overdrive and political vendetta.

It's time to focus on quality
This refers to Rukmini Banerji's article Education must be more goal-oriented (November 6). It is a matter of great pride that our country has almost achieved universal enrolment in schools, however, a lot needs to be done in terms of quality of education that is imparted in these schools. Even now several schools continue to suffer from poor teacher-student ratio, which adversely affects the amount of attention that a student receives. We must use modern technology to impart collaborative and interactive education to students of our country.
