Speaking with Hindustan Times, Kathgarh station house officer Gurinder Pal Singh said the police party reached Kanga village after getting information about a boy and girl hiding in a room in the fields. The SHO said the police team took the uncle of the girl and Haddobet village sarpanch to identify the girl and raided the spot around 9pm.
However, seeing the police approach, main accused Amandeep Singh managed to escape under the cover of darkness, he added. "The policemen chased him, but to no avail. We would soon nab Amandeep and his brother Dara, the third accused," the SHO said. Their brother Rana is already in police custody.
The girl, meanwhile, has been handed over to her family after recording her statement and putting her through a medical examination.
A case was registered against the three brothers Amandeep Singh, Rana and Dara Singh of Muttomand village under sections 363, 366-A, 506 and 34 of IPC at Kathgarh police station on October 18.
