A team of district health department on Thursday conducted raid at local hotel Kamal Palace under a special drive to check the hygiene and quality of eatables served at the hotel.
Health inspector Dr Harjotpal informed that they had found many irregularities in the standards of hygiene being maintained at the hotel kitchen. "The kitchen had no proper drainage system and was found in pathetic condition. We found cockroaches in the kitchen and cobwebs on the roof." Taking note of this, the team members issued instructions to the owners to maintain proper hygiene.

He added: "We have collected the samples of paneer, lemon pickle, curd, sauce and chicken from the hotel kitchen. We have also collected two samples of paneer and khoya barfi from a sweets shop of Urban Estate Phase-I market and another sample of chicken from a sweets shop in Choti Baradari."

Eight samples were collected by the officials and sent for testing to the labs. He added that to keep a tab on malpractices, including use of adulterated khoya and other eatables during the festive season, such raids would be conducted on a regular basis.
