The police have arrested a Rania village resident in the district for allegedly raping a minor girl and abducting two other girls of the same village.
As per information, a 14-year-old girl student was allegedly raped by the suspect after he abducted her from Rania village in Moga
district on Saturday. Besides, the suspect had also abducted two other girl students, aged 13 and 12, respectively, of the same village when they were on the way to home. The girls belong to two Dalit families.
The father of two abducted girls told the police that on Friday his daughters went to school but did not return home by evening. "I and my family members searched for the girls throughout the night, but to no avail. The next morning, my neighbour told me that his 14-year-old daughter had also not returned home from school. We went to police station immediately and submitted a complaint," he added.
Moga senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh Grewal said, "After receiving the complaint, I constituted a special police team for nabbing the suspect. Three different police parties raided some places across the state. During the search, our police party found two girls minor girls from Anandpur Sahib. They revealed that Sukhdeep Singh 'Soni' of Rania village had abducted them along with another 14-year-old girl."
The SSP added that police conducted a raid at Dalla village near Jagraon in Ludhiana district after receiving secret information. The police nabbed Soni with the abducted girl from the house of Soni's close relative.
"The victim, in her complaint to the police stated that Sukhdeep Singh Soni who belonged to her village, had been raping her on the pretext of marrying her. We rescued three minor girls from the possession of Soni," said SSP.
Grewal added that the police have registered a case against Sukhdeep Singh 'Soni' under Sections 363, 366-A, 376 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at Badhni Kalan police station after the girl's medical examination was conducted at the civil hospital Nihal Singh Wala. Further investigation is on, he added.
