The Bandra police on Saturday recovered the valuables robbed from the residence of the 27-year-old Spanish national who was allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint at her Bandra residence on November 5.
The police recovered the booty from the Reay Road residence of the
30-year-old accused, Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, who confessed to the crime after he was remanded in police custody till November 16 on Friday.
The police said that although they had visited Ansari's residence on November 7 to recover the booty, they could not find it as he had hidden the valuables in the attic.
"We have recovered a watch, a mobile phone, 70 euros, 50 pounds, a Sony camera, a pair of American diamond ear rings and a brooch. The mobile phone belongs to the fourth floor resident of the building Ansari had broken into before intruding into the victim's apartment," said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, regional additional commissioner of police.
According to the police, Ansari is a history-sheeter and has at least 28 cases of thefts and robberies against him with five cases at Bandra, eight at Khar, 11 at Byculla and four at Agripada.
"We have not been able to recover the victim's night clothes that Ansari had fled with. We will be reconstructing the crime scene and the recovery will be made soon. Besides, we need to corroborate the medical, forensic and circumstantial evidence to build a strong case against Ansari. We will make sure that we lead the case to the point of conviction," said Nangre-Patil.
The police said that after the victim identified Ansari during the identification parade at Arthur road jail on Thursday, she left for Germany as she was traumatised and her parents are ailing.
"Her absence will not affect the trial as circumstantial and forensic evidence against Ansari will be enough to prove the charges," he said.
