In its push to achieve an 8% share in the global automotive market, Nissan will launch at least 10 products in India by 2015. It is also considering a sub-4 metre compact sports utility vehicle.

"These 10 products will be across segments and include our low-cost brand Datsun," said Nitish Tipnis, director marketing and sales, Hover Automotive India, the sales and distribution arm of Nissan India. "The compact SUV segment is an interesting concept. There could be a product on those lines as well."

Sale of utility vehicles and SUVs has outpaced the rest of the industry so far this year aided by rising disposable incomes and cheaper cost of fuel (diesel). In the first 7 months this year, UVs have grown by over 60% at a time when passenger car sales have grown at less than 3% per annum.

"It is a no brainer that we will need products in that space even though a sub 4-metre version will take time," said Tipnis.
