Reacting to the BJP’s allegations alone won’t get Congress votes Congress president Sonia Gandhi asking party workers to respond aggressively to the Opposition’s false propaganda against the UPA is surprising (Samvad baithak at Surajkund, November 10). In a democracy, political parties get votes on the basis of their performance and not on the basis of how they react to opponents’ allegations. The Congress should focus on its primary job of providing good governance and stop wasting its time in trying to get even with the BJP.

Don’t make light of this
This refers to the report Kejriwal fires at black money, draws denials (Nove-mber 10). The UPA government must take Arvind Kejriwal’s recent disclosure on the alleged involvement of HSBC bank in money laundering seriously. The government must not dilly-dally on this issue, as the country’s reputation is at stake. To begin with, the finance ministry must put pressure on the bank to disclose the details of Indians who operate their Swiss bank accounts with help from HSBC.

It’s now or never for the BJP
I agree with the editorial Off the blocks (November 12) that the Congress has made it clear at the recent meeting that it will leave no stone unturned in preparing itself for the next elections. The party has suffered a lot due to the recent scams in which many Congress ministers are allegedly involved. But it seems to have gone into damage control mode at the right time. This should worry the BJP, which is struggling with many internal problems at the moment. The saffron party should
also lay out its agenda on time in order to give the Congress a tough competition in 2014.
