"The hotels have been avoiding property tax payment and despite repeated reminders, they have not come forward. If this continues, we will be forced to seal the premises," said a senior official of the department.
These hotels provide easy accommodation to flyers who want to put up near the airport.
According officials of the municipal body, some hotels have not paid any taxes since the time of completion.
The property tax department has calculated tax from 2004 onwards when the unit area method was implemented in the city and found that some of the properties have outstanding arrears of up to Rs.44 lakh.
About 37 out of the 77 properties have been sent reminders twice in the last two years.
The outstanding amount of the rest of the hotels is still being calculated for which an inspector has been assigned.
"No evidence of payment of property tax is available in record for these properties. Some hotels have been found to be making wrong assessments. The officials have been asked to prepare a report," added the official.
The corporation has also sent notices to tenants of properties whose owners are not paying taxes.
