A 25-year-old man, wanted for his involvement in at least five criminal cases, was arrested for allegedly gunning-down a local criminal who had assaulted him for his refusal to cough-up extortion money, police said on Wednesday.
Identified as Manish, who is a small-time criminal
himself, the accused had used a country-made pistol to pump bullets into his victim, Gyan Singh, at southeast Delhi's Sangam Vihar last Friday, said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
"During interrogation, Manish confessed to having killed Singh with the assistance of one Sunny — both of whom had been assaulted for refusing to pay extortion money to Singh," DCP Sharma said.
According to police, while Singh had assaulted Manish early last week, Sunny had been assaulted on Thursday night after he refused to pay Rs. 25,000 to him as 'protection money' and in return for Singh's 'permission' to work in the Sangam Vihar area.
The duo, police claimed, decided to join forces to avenge the insult after realizing that they had a common enemy,
"On November 9, as per their plan, Manish and Sunny, who were on the latter's motorcycle and equipped with a country-made pistol, found Singh sitting at a shop around nine pm," DCP Sharma said.
"Sunny shot three rounds at Singh while Manish, who was riding the motorcycle, sped away. To avoid detection, they parted ways with Manish escaping to Muradabad. However, he returned to Delhi when his finances ran out and was arrested as soon as his presence became known," Sharma added. Police are on the lookout for Sunny.
