The encounter started post-midnight, and intermittent firing went on till early the next morning.
“The encounter started at night, and we lost three jawans while battling the militants. Two of them were also killed,” army spokesperson JS Brar said.
The army, however, refused to reveal the names of the jawans.
According to army sources, reinforcements were bought in and the entire area was cordoned off. Two AK assault rifles have been recovered from the scene of the encounter.
This is the second time that a major infiltration bid has been foiled by troops near the LoC within a week. On Friday, troops shot dead four militants who were attempting to sneak into the Keran sector.
“The terrorists were trying to sneak into India from Hanuman top at 1.30 am on Thursday,” the army said.
