Reiterating commitment to ensure that each school has teachers, Punjab education minister Sikander Singh Maluka on Friday announced that all vacant posts of teacher would be filled within a year.
Speaking on the sidelines of the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new building of martyr Lt Bikram Singh Government Senior Secondary School at Sialba Fatehpur, Maluka, said, "The Punjab government is duty bound to fill all vacant posts of teacher in government schools within a year, besides upgrading the basic infrastructure of the school buildings within three years."

Maluka added that the SAD-BJP government had laid special emphasis on improving the education standards in the state. He said four new education hubs were being set up in the state on 400 acres each, which would provide quality education to the students of region.

The minister further said the government had decided to continue its campaign to regard meritorious students and institutions, which have achieved distinctions.

He also warned the teachers against the practice of absenteeism by saying that such erring teachers would be taken to task.

NK Sharma, chief parliamentary secretary, industry and commerce, said the Punjab government had allocated Rs. 26 crore to improve the infrastructure of the schools in SAS Nagar district, whereas Rs. 2,400 crore would be spent on various development and welfare schemes in the district.

He said the education hub and Medicity at Mullanpur would generate employment besides improving the education and health facilities in the region.

The function was organised to commemorate the death anniversary of martyr Lt Bikram Singh.

The education minister laid the foundation stone of the extended building of the school, which would be built at a cost of Rs. 46 lakh.
