Banerjee made this latest offer to CPI veteran Gurudas Dasgupta over telephone on Monday evening. Dasgupta didn't make commitment but said he would convey her message to the Left parties.
According to Trinamool sources, Banerjee told Dasgupta that as the Left parties have "reservation" in supporting a Trinamool-sponsored motion, let them bring it. She also asked Dasgupta to be the mediator between her party and the CPI(M). Banerjee's move comes after CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat ruled out any support for Trinamool's motion.
Rejecting arguments that inability to get the much-hyped no-trust motion admitted in Lok Sabha will be a major setback for the party, Trinamool leader Saugata Roy said, "It is not a question of numbers but of principals. We will show which parties are in favour of the FDI and who are actually opposed to it."
The Congress, however, sounded confident of tackling a no-trust motion. "We are fully confident of numbers and will prove a majority when ever any such motion comes," spokesperson Sandip Dikshit said.
"A time comes when you have to evolve from a street fighter to a statesperson. You have to evolve from an agitator to an administrator," information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari added.
