The Jammu Tawi-Amritsar-Hazur Sahib Nanded Express (02422) was started due to constant shortage of seats in Sachkhand Express (12716), which runs daily between Amritsar and Nanded, for the convenience of Sikh community in Punjab and Jammu.
Sources revealed that Sachkhand Express was completely booked till February 27, leaving many pilgrims in the lurch.
Sikhs in huge number visit Nanded to pay obeisance to the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh, who breathed his last at Hazur Sahib. The train used to leave Jammu on Monday at 9.45am and halt at Amritsar at 2pm, then leaving Amritsar at 2.30pm to reach Nanded at 11.45pm on Tuesday. The train departed Nanded on its return journey the next day.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said: "We will write to the railway minister, as it is an important issue concerning the Sikhs. We will request that it be made a regular train, as the Sachkhand Express is always overbooked."
