Eknath Omble, younger brother of Tukaram Omble, the assistant police sub-inspector who gave up his life to capture Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist nabbed alive in the 26/11 terror attack expressed satisfaction at the hanging of Kasab early Wednesday morning.
Eknath however feels
there is a need for stricter laws, early disposal of cases and punishments to send the right message to terrorists and to act as deterrents.
While he would have preferred a public hanging for Kasab, he says that had Afzul Guru convicted for the attack on parliament been hanged in time, we wouldn't have witnessed 26/11 and that his brother could have been alive.
A resident of Khanda colony in New Panvel, Eknath who has a Chinese stall, reacting to the news of the hanging said, "I am glad that the President rejected the mercy petition without much delay. I had appealed to him to reject the petition, when he had come to Mumbai in October. I thank him for taking heed of our sentiments."
Stated an emotional Eknath, "My soul of my brother, who had taken 20 bullets in his stomach will finally be at peace today. The government has taken a good decision and hanged Kasab without any further delay."
Speaking of his feelings earlier, Eknath said, "I had thought that just like Guru, Kasab too will continue to enjoy our hospitality eating biryani, due to our soft approach to terrorism, unlike the US which went all out for Osama and killed him."
Stated the martyr's brother, "It took us 4 years to hang Kasab while Afzal Guru is still alive. If he had been hanged in time, there would be no 26/11. All the innocents including my brother would have been alive."
Demanded Eknath, "There is a need to send out a strong message to the terrorist organizations that we mean business. Our laws need to be changed. There should be public hanging of such terrorists. This will deter others from even planning such acts."
Concluded Eknath said, "I have seen what my sister-in-law and her four daughters have gone through in the past 4 years. Nothing is going to bring back my brother, but at least more innocents will not be killed and more innocents will not be left behind crying."
