Angry over poor condition of the link road in their village, residents Sohian Khurd village on Wednesday blocked Sangrur-Patiala national highway for two hours. The villagers raised slogans against the state government and brought traffic to a halt. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road and commuters were put to a lot of inconvenience. The local police had to divert vehicles through other routes in order to ease the traffic situation.

Former sarpanch Jarnail Singh said the condition of the link road leading to their village was deplorable as the authorities concerned have left the construction work midway seven months ago. He said the incomplete road has become accident-prone and a drive to the village is fraught with danger.

Another villager, Paramjit Singh, said they had met officials concerned who did not heed to their representations.

The agitators lifted the blockade after an assurance from tehsildar Manmohan Singh who visited the spot. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul said he would look into the matter and the problem of villagers will be solved at the earliest.
