In a suspected case of honour killing, family members of a woman who had eloped and married four years ago allegedly murdered her husband and two children in Kaimur district of southwest Bihar.
The couple, Dinanath Bind and Rina Devi, had returned to Kekarha village last year with
their daughter, their son was yet to born, hopeful that the passage of time would help them make peace with her family.
Their assessment went horribly wrong on Sunday night.
The accused, allegedly led by the Rina's father, shot Dinanath, 28, and slit the throats of the couple's three-year-old daughter Chataki Kumari and seven-month-old son Vivek Kumar, police said.
They did not spare Rina, 25, either, beating her up badly as she struggled to save her husband, a private commercial jeep driver, and children.
Police have launched a hunt for Rina's father Wakeel Bind, uncle Suresh Bind and brothers Sanjay and Shambhu.
"An FIR had been lodged against the four assailants on the basis of the statement of Dinanath's father Ghunu Bind," Kaimur superintendent of police Uma Shankar Sudhanshu said on Wednesday.
Police sources said Rina and Dinanath were from the same community and their marriage had incensed the accused.
Rina has been admitted to hospital at Varanasi, about 79 km from Kaimur district headquarters town of Bhabua.
