The fake Facebook profile of Shaheen Dhada - the woman arrested over a remark posted on Facebook following Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's death - is yet to be deleted even as the family fears its 'misuse'. The girl decided to quit Facebook after irate Shiv Sainik’s ransacked the hospital of her uncle Dr Abdul Dhada and her subsequent arrest. The family had given an application to the Palghar police on Monday when they learned that a fake profile has been operated on her name. Even after three days of submitting the application, the profile still persists.
 
Shaheen’s family members stated that such account could be misused for propagating wrong information. “The fake profile could be misused. We will not be responsible if some posts are made from the fake account. We have decided to remind the police to delete the fake profile,” said Farooq Dhada, Shaheen’s father.
 
Shaheen’s counsel Sudhir Gupta said, “The police should have a mechanism to delete such accounts quickly. This is an offence and police should nail the culprits who are doing it.”

Palghar police have claimed that actions were initiated on the same day when they received the application. “We had deleted the account on the same day but it seems that a new fake account has been created. We will verify this and initiate actions,” said S Pingale, senior police inspector, Palghar police station.  

The fake profile already has 1820 subscribers. The picture used for the profile showcases a girl with her mouth shut with tapes strapped across her mouth (indicating the loss of freedom of speech).

Meanwhile, several pages in support of Shaheen have been created on Facebook. While a page compares Shaheen with Taliban targeted Malala Yousafzai, another page wants Shaheen to come back on Facebook. Angry posts against curtailing freedom of speech are been witnessed.

The two women were arrested by the Palghar police for allegedly promoting hatred between the masses on Monday after Shaheen posted an update on her Facebook profile denouncing Sunday’s Mumbai bandh in the aftermath of the demise of Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray. They were subsequently released on bail.
