The police are putting together the picture with the help of call details from Monty and Hardeep’s phones and post-mortem report.
It is believed that skirmishes between Ponty and Hardeep had been continuing for the past few months. Sources said Ponty had told Hardeep’s young son, while he was being helped in dressing up by a maid, to leave the house (farmhouse no. 21) and live with his maternal grandparents. The forcible occupation of farmhouse no. 42 proved to be the second and immediate trigger for the shootout.
When Hardeep came to know about Ponty’s men barging into farmhouse no. 42, he got furious. He rushed to Chhatarpur from his Noida office.
Based on statements of eyewitnesses and family members, including Ponty’s man Friday Sweety, it is understood Hardeep accosted Ponty, who kicked him. Hardeep fell down and fired at Ponty. He got up to target Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, who was on the other side with his gunman Sachin Tyagi crouching behind the wheel of the SUV. Investigations show Tyagi shot at Hardeep and he collapsed within minutes.
