Falsifying an assurance given by state director for medical education and research, Dr AS Thind, the PIMS Medical and Education Charitable Society, a body headed by cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, failed to transfer salaries to the PIMS staff on Saturday.
Employees, including doctors and paramedical staff, had recently struck work for over a week after non-payment of salaries for over three months.

On November 21, Thind visited PIMS to take stock of the situation, highlighted by HT. He held a meeting with agitating employees in the presence of medical superintendent Dr SK Bansal and vice-principal Dr Rajeev Arora.

"By coming Saturday (November 24), salary of August and by next Saturday (December 1), the salary of September would be transferred," he had assured the employees.

"On Monday morning, we will review the situation in a meeting with other staff members, before finalising our next course of action," said an employee.

Meanwhile, PIMS medical superintendent Dr SK Bansal said: "I am in Chandigarh, due to holidays and am unaware of the status of salary. If we had promised the salary, then it should have been released," he said adding that, "I will look into the issue on Monday and will be in a better position to inform you."
