Some of the roads where traffic moved at a snail's pace include roads leading to Connaught Place, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Barakhamba Road, Pragati Maidan, Mandi House, ITO, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Laxmi Nagar and Vikas Marg, etc.
"Traffic slowed down at many places, including Connaught Place outer circle, Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Barakhamba Road in central Delhi due to the Nagar Kirtan procession taken out to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Apart from this, in view of a number of weddings taking place in the city traffic was affected on several arterial roads. A heavy flow of pedestrians at Pragati Maidan due to the ongoing trade fair impeded traffic flow in the nearby areas," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
To add to the woes of the motorists some vehicles broke down near IP Park, Moolchand and South Extension, significantly adding to the rush, said traffic police.
"Traffic movement is usually smooth over the weekend and we enjoy an easy ride on city roads. But traffic situation was worse than working days peak hours on some roads. The roads were choc-a-bloc," said Mohd Jalal Uddin, a commuter.
Garg said: "Despite all these factors, traffic was managed well by our men."
