"I was one of the naughtiest students. I know how bored students get while listening to long-winding speeches, as I too yawned when my principal or teachers began to deliver lectures," remarked Tewari, a Congress MP from Ludhiana.
The school authorities presented him a pencil portrait sketched by school student Revant Bogra, along with his admission form filled way back in 1970.
"My mother will be very happy to see these gifts," said the Union minister.
During his speech, Tewari reminisced about his days in St John's and remarked that it was great pleasure and honour for him to return to school grounds as a grown-up.
Later, the athletics meet kicked off with the unfurling of the national flag and tent pegging by horse riders.
Tewari was visibly impressed by talent displayed by schoolchildren in different races and archery. "This is one of the finest institutions," said Tewari while walking along with principal Kavita Das.
He also thanked students and teachers of his alma mater for the hard work they had put in to organise the athletic event and exhorted them to strive for excellence in all spheres of life.
