"The purpose was to sensitise students and the public towards protecting and conserving India's heritage and the environment," said Atul Dev, convener of INTACH, Gurgaon.
Some of the schools that participated were Delhi Public School, Summer Fields School, Ryan International School, DAV, Shalom Hills International, Rabindranath World School, Amity International School, Blue Bells Public School, among others.
"This is a very thoughtful initiative by INTACH. It is important that today's children know the importance and value of the country's heritage. Books can't teach everything," said Gurminder Kaur, head of the computer department at Rabindranath World School. The run was part of heritage week 2012.
