A 23-year-old man was arrested for raping a two-year-old girl in west Delhi's Nangloi minutes before he had planned to flee the capital, police said on Sunday. Vijender, who lured the victim on the pretext of playing with her before sexually assaulting her, was arrested from his house late on Saturday night.

"The victim stays in Vijender's neighbourhood. We zeroed-in on him almost immediately after her parents approached us with a missing person's complaint in the matter last evening," said an officer.

According to police, initial investigation and local enquiry had revealed that the victim had last been seen in Vijender's company by some eyewitnesses.

After having lured her away to his rented, second-floor apartment, Vijender had raped her and fled the spot, leaving her unconscious.

A police team discovered her while searching the building before rushing her to a hospital for medical examination.
"The medical examination confirmed rape. He admitted to his role and has been arrested," the officer added.
