Two Rolex among dozens of expensive designer watches, three luxury sedans, a posh office housing four different firms, four dozen mobile phones - including a Vertu - and eight small toy replicas of foreign-made weapons and 'spy equipment' figure in the checklist of recoveries made from the
infamous 'Stock Guru' couple's hideout in Maharashtra.
According to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police Crime Branch, Ulhas Prabhakar Khaire, the 33-year-old school dropout who, along with wife Raksha J. Urs, 30, had pulled off a Rs. 500 crore cheating scam before being arrested earlier this month, had even planned to produce Marathi films.
"After their arrest and interrogation, we have recovered bank drafts worth R19.96 crore, 18 PAN cards under various fake identities and companies, fake passports, 75-odd credit/debit cards, 131 cheque books and even 20 pairs of contact lenses from their property," said Sandeep Goel, joint commissioner of police, (EOW).
With these recent recoveries, effected by a specially-constituted team camping at Ratnagiri where the couple was allegedly on the brink of launching another chapter of their nationwide swindling campaign, recoveries valued at R83 crore have been concluded.
The said scam, police claimed, is estimated to have cheated 2,05,062 investors across the country on the pretext of 'prudent and source based investments in the share market'.
"They had even procured spy equipment such as a clock with video recording, a SINOBC wrist watch with the same recording facility, a digital video recorder with a wireless camera and even a remote-controlled mobile jammer set," joint CP Goel said.
Police said the couple used to induce victims to invest money in their company, 'M/s Stock Guru India' operating from Delhi's Rama Road in 2010, on the promise of lucrative returns and against promissory notes issued by their aliases Lokeshwar Dev and Priyanka Dev.
However, instead of returning their investments as promised, the couple would quietly shut down their office and disappear.
