According to sources, Chatterjee got back the key portfolio of assessment and collection, which had been given as an additional charge to MMiC (solid waste management) Debabrata Majumder on January 24 this year.
Questions are doing the rounds that despite a brilliant job by Majumder, who had undertaken the waiver scheme that had fetched around Rs.362 crores to the civic exchequer, he was ousted.
After a major failure in repairing roads prior to the festive seasons, CM also clipped the mayor’s wings by taking away the roads and engineering department and handing it over to Atin Ghosh, who had been a strong contender to Chatterjee’s post for quite sometime now.
Every time there is a rumour of change in the city mayor’s post, Ghosh’s name comes in as the first choice. Trident claimed its victim with MMiC (Entally Workshop) Tarak Singh being transferred to take charge of a new department - slum development, which was earlier with MMiC (health) Atin Ghosh.
Singh was instrumental in bringing the Entally Workshop into the limelight by gradually transforming the Raj-era manufacturing unit of KMC into a profit-making organisation after decades of losses.
Atin Ghosh also lost slum development to Tarak Singh, despite trying hard to cough in more central government funding and ensuring no further funds go back citing as ‘lying unused’.
