Music possesses the ability to overwhelm us whether we are prepared for it or not. Aiming to preserve and promote music that matters, Amarrass Desert Music Festival is bringing to the fore various folk artists and bands during its two-day musical extravaganza, to be held next month.

“We have grown over the years and have added various unique aspects to the festival. We wish to provide the right avenues to make music sustainable and as well as help folk musicians,” says Ankur Malhotra, the organiser of the event.

With a line up comprising 50 artists and 12 bands from four continents — including the likes of Bombino (the Hendrix of Niger), BaBa ZuLa (The creators of Istanbul Psychedelia), the redoubtable Sakar Khan (Padma Shri Awardee who seldom performs in public) and Barmer Boys among others — this year’s fest promises to give its audience a glimpse of traditional and folk music from deserts all around the world.

Apart from that, this event aims to be a show based on collaborations and sound experiments using ancient and modern instruments.
“Our biggest expectation is to collaborate with the audience. We don’t have a set list or a plan. Everything is done on the spot depending on the response from the listeners. Every show is unique,” says rhythm guitarist and Bombino’s manager Tyler George-Minetti on behalf of the singer when asked as to what it is they have in mind for their show. Lets hope they stay true to their word.
